HOW TO
■ Be selective about which aspect of the landscape you like the most, and reduce the scene to its key elements: less is more in composition. Here, the palm island is the clear focus.
■ Ansel Adams said, 'the secret to a great photograph is knowing where to stand.' Will the sense of depth be improved by getting up higher? Or lower? I was slightly elevated for this shot.
■ Try and shoot early or late in the day At these times, the light's lower angle accentuates contours and textures in the landscape, enhancing three-dimensionality. Use apps like The Photographer's Ephemeris to know where the sun will be.
■ In limited light, use a tripod and a longer exposure: you'll achieve effects like the sense of movement through this grass, which becomes a great foreground subject.
