This little group of islands of Cornwall’s tip feels both mild and wild, with stalls of farm produce and tales of smugglers to add to its Caribbean-worthy white-sand beaches. Getting here, by ferry, small plane or helicopter, is just the first part of the adventure. Go now, when it’s at its balmiest (visitislesofscilly.com).
FRIDAY EVENING
✦ Ater a boat transfer from the main island of St Mary’s to Bryher, three miles away (£34 return, via hotel), install yourself at Hell Bay Hotel. When the water laps at the curve of beach outside, you’ll wonder why this Hamptons-like hotel has such a forbidding name (from £150 half board; hellbay.co.uk). The on-site Crab Shack, open to mid-September, offers a messy and deliciously simple dinner.
