Digital Subscriptions > Lonely Planet > December 2017 > WARWICKSHIRE, ENGLAND Bower House

Opened by an Australian couple this year, Bower House has brought a dash of relaxed Antipodean flair to the Cotswolds. The Grade-II-listed restaurant and rooms brim with creative details, with the eye racing from carefully curated furniture and objets d’art to original artworks. Comfort isn’t sacrificed on the altar of design either; bedrooms have super-king beds, the fattest doors you’ve ever seen – installed for maximum soundproofing – and bathrooms bigger than most people’s living rooms. The result is that guests feel like they’re staying at the home of an imaginative friend, an effect magnified by the cheerful service and atmosphere in the restaurant below.
