SHOT OF THE MONTH
Justin Foulkes’ image of Île de Ré (p43)
The boardwalk that overlooks the Le Bois-Plageen-Ré provides a gorgeous elevated view over the beach and sea. However, for a more interesting picture, I wanted an elevated view of the beach, sea and boardwalk. The first trick was to find a section where the path was angled towards the beach. This provides a ‘lead-in line’ to draw the viewer’s eyes into the photo. The second, trickier, part was to get into an elevated position. I kicked off my sandals and clambered up onto the rather narrow wooden handrail. Fortunately, I managed to fire off a few frames before gravity brought me down to Earth with a bump.
