Asan Tole
(Between Durbar Square and Thamel)
From dawn to dusk the six-spoked j unction of Asan Tole is j ammed with vegetable and spice vendors selling everything from yak tails to dried fish. It's a fascinating place to linger. Cat Stevens allegedly wrote his hippie-era song Kathmandu in a smoky teahouse in Asan Tole
Durbar Square
(Old Town)
Kathmandu's Durbar Square was where the city's kings were once crowned, and where they lived (durbar means 'palace'). As such, it remains the traditional heart of the Old Town and Kathmandu's most spectacular legacy of traditional architecture.
