Seymour’s Parlour
Wicked Uncle Seymour, so the story goes, was a rogue and a gambler, who spent his days roaming the world, collecting adventures alongside curios and antiques. The latter he brought back to his London home, where they now sit on proud display in recently opened Zetter Townhouse Marylebone. Uncle Seymour may be fctional, but real life has a tendency to disappear once through the smart Georgian doors of the hotel. There is not a patch of wall or table surface in the cocktail lounge unadorned by some intriguing trinket, whether architectural plaster casts, rows of miniature bottles or various ceramic animals. The cocktails are equally inventive, the Turf Club (with gin, Dubonnet, grape reduction, bitters and grass) a highlight. Bedrooms are places in which to forget that the 21st-century is busy getting on with things on the streets outside. Beds are insanely comfy, cocktails take the place of standard mini-bar offerings, and more of Seymour’s collection appear, from hats to record players.
