Also called 'Polo Fried Chicken'. Though the somdam (spicy green papaya salad), sticky rice and lahp (a spicy salad of minced meat) of this ex-street stall give the impression of a northeastern-Thai-style eatery, the restaurant's deep-fried bird is more southern. Regardless, smothered in a thick layer of crispy deep-fried garlic, it is a truly Bangkok experience.

An alarmingly short barrier at this rooftop bar is all that separates patrons from the street, 61 floors down. On top of the Banyan Tree Hotel, Moon Bar claims to be among the highest alfresco bars in the world. Save your shorts and sandals for another locale.

Australian chef-author David Thompson is the man behind one of Bangkok's - and if you believe the critics, the world's - best Thai restaurants.
