There’s more to Dubai than shopping

Dubai is famed for its futuristic skyscrapers and malls, but there are also low-key pleasures to be found, from exploring the city’s arts scene to finding solace in a park and sampling ethnic eats.

Traditional Arabic architecture in Dubai’s Bastakia Quarter

This modernist cluster of 10 mid-rise stone-clad towers, built around walkways and piazzas, is an art hub in the Financial District filled with exciting galleries and is the venue for monthly Art Nights. Works by Picasso, Miró and Chagall can be seen at the Opera Gallery, with contemporary Middle Eastern art on show at Artspace (; see individual galleries for opening times).
