ASPIRING ERNEST SHACKLETONS, TAKE NOTE. POLAR EXPLORER Captain Louis Rudd MBE is embarking on a 355-mile ski-traverse of the Greenland ice cap – and invites those in peak physical condition (with a few thousand quid to spare) to join him for the adventure of a lifetime. The expedition will take 27 days, during which participants will haul a 70kg sled, and face challenges including crevasses, storms and polar bears. ‘Greenland is referred to as Antarctica’s little sister for good reason,’ says Louis. ‘The look and feel is very similar and, once you’re on the ice, it’s long days of hauling and short breaks. You have to be comfortable in your headspace. It’s easy to unravel as the demands of the environment weigh on you.’ Those taking part will get a scenic introduction to Greenland, travelling by plane and helicopter before weaving past icebergs by boat to the starting point at Isortoq (departs 15 August; approx £15,050pp; pelorusx.com).
