Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche flew to the site of Paro Taktsang monastery on the back of a tigress to subdue the local demon
PARO, BHUTAN
High of the tiger
I visited Bhutan with five friends this year, and our last stop was the Tiger’s Nest, or Paro Taktsang – a Buddhist temple complex that clings to a cliff over 3,000 metres high, in the Upper Paro Valley. We trekked for nearly three hours to reach it, walking up a steep road in the rain, along with hundreds of other people. Though it was difficult, we all managed it and enjoyed the experience: the sense of peace, the beauty of the surrounding woods and the whistling of birds. As we descended, I saw this magnificent view and took a picture. It was amazing, and felt like the moment of a lifetime. I feel so blessed to have been there.
