1O Questions For… DJ YODA

Multi award-winning turntablist DJ Yoda has built a formidable reputation for his audio-visual cut and paste extravaganzas, which have seen him thrill festival audiences all over the world. He’s worked with everyone from Dr Dre to Banksy and Mark Ronson and his new album, Home Cooking, showcases a more mature sound, prioritising songs over beats. Gary Walker puts 10 questions to a modern-day turntable legend

“My dad worked in the music industry and kept his record collection in my bedroom, so I grew up literally surrounded by vinyl. I would mess around with my parents’ hi-fiand emulate the scratch sounds I was hearing in late-80s hip-hop.”

“Initially, Loppylugs in Edgware, where Richard Russell from XL worked. That was really the first community of DJs that I tapped into, too, so it was really important.”
