Discovering Pocketmags

Posted Tuesday, January 24, 2017   |   570 views   |   Hobbies & Crafts   |   Comments (0) Esther from Inside Out and About blog finds a new love for digital with the Pocketmags app and Creativity magazine...

It started with football magazines - I would buy Match, and my sister would buy Shoot. Every single week. We blu-tacked the posters to a bedroom wall - until there was no room left. I would quickly read a copy of 'Mizz' or 'Bliss' if my friends ever had a copy, because I wasn’t allowed to buy them.

As I got older it went from Look, to Glamour, back to Look and more recently Red. I love health magazines, home magazines, craft magazines, lifestyle magazines and parenting magazines - anything that gives me lots of new ideas, teaches me something, or challenges my way of thinking. In a lifetime, that is a lot of magazines.
Some magazines don’t take long to get through, but if there is something I want to come back to, I put the magazine aside - I fold the corners down, rip pages out, cut them up, or mark all the places I want to reread. I have good intentions, but as a busy mum of three, rarely do I ever get the chance to come back to anything, so in the end I just end up putting them all in the recycling bin. Something I loathe to do.
When I was asked how I felt about getting to grips with magazines digitally, my initial response was: “Absolutely not”. I felt the same when my husband suggested that I get a Kindle a couple of Christmases ago, and how wrong I was. I love my Kindle. It is so light weight. So convenient. So brilliant. It’s genius, and the most important thing is that no enjoyment is lost.

Reading magazines digitally creates less waste, makes storage easier, is convenient, easy to access, plus fuss and guilt free. You can take all your favourite magazines on holiday, to the beach, on a train, to an appointment - they will be right there when you need them (weighing close to nothing). Some magazines I have enjoyed reading digitally are The Green Parent, Creativity and Gurgle. I get an email when a new issue is out, and it is fantastic.

Is curling up on the sofa with an iPad or a Kindle, just as cosy as curling up with your favourite magazine or book? Absolutely yes. Pocketmags is available as an app for Kindle, Smart phones and tablets, or you can access your account direct through the Pocketmags website.
