5 digital magazines for Autumn

Posted October 2, 2017   |   911 views   |   Hobbies & Crafts   |   Comments (0) Ready to curl up with a new read? These autumn issues get our pick for Fall...

 1.      Delicious magazine

Does it get any more autumnal than a pile of pumpkins? We think not. Delicious magazine is packed full of super squash recipes for October, with plenty of warming dishes to enjoy throughout the season. Acting Food Editor Jen Bedloe gives us the lowdown on buying the freshest pumpkin you can find: “The skin should be unblemished; if the flesh near the stem or underside gives when you press it, it’s probably past its best […] go small if you want more flavour and less seeds”. We like the sound of Roast Pumpkin with Green Charmoula and Tahini (or why not check out 3 Ways with Squash from Veggie magazine?) for dinner. Don’t forget to pick up an extra large orange pumpkin for Halloween!

2.      Gardener’s World magazine

We know, we know. Bringing home a bountiful crop of fruit and vegetables - what could possibly be better for October? This month’s Gardener’s World magazine gives you all the advice you need to grow apples with magnificent flavour – local varieties, planting and pollinating all covered – to help you bring your apple trees from blossom to harvest.  Monty also spills his favourite apple varieties for cooking and eating. From his picks, we like the warm-hued ‘Ribston Pippin’ for the perfect Fall snack fresh from the tree and the ‘Newton Wonder’ for apple crumbles; food for thought indeed.

3.      Food to Love magazine

The cover of this month’s Food to Love magazine calls to all foodies with a sweet tooth (Walnut & Spice Cake with Rosé Pears – say no more). Other Autumn dessert picks packing a pumpkin-spiced punch include Spiced Pumpkin & Honey Pies, Chai Latte Biscotti and Salted Chocolate Cake with Peanut Maple Icing. Looking for a seasonal healthy hit? There’s a bountiful list of nature’s offerings for Autumn/Winter; from aubergines and celeriac to squash, swiss chard and turnips, too. We like the sound of Beetroot & Heirloom Carrot Salad with Persian Feta – so nice it’s almost naughty…

4.      LandScape magazine

There’s no better time to take life at a slower pace and enjoy the subtle changes of the season; the turning of the leaves, the chill in a morning breeze and the longer evenings perfect for a hot chocolate or two. The latest issue of LandScape explores the colour and flavour of nature’s larder and offers up some alternative makes to try – baking bread outdoors, anyone? With handy features on cutting the perfect kindling, tanning your own leather in a traditional way and exploring the lost forests of Scotland, it’s the perfect read to make the most of what you have and discover the beauty of British nature.

5.      Amateur Photographer

If you love the misty mornings and stunning autumn colours, why not grab a camera and capture the magic? This month’s Amateur Photographer helps you navigate tricky exposure issues, making shooting on darker days a breeze and editing easier when you get home. Our highlight? The feature on snapping windblown foliage with a macro lens and making the most of what nature has to offer for October. We especially liked the idea of capturing the intricacies of skeleton leaves or getting up early to grab that golden light. There’s no time of year more fitting for a shot of gold, after all.
