I dropped my race pack to the ground. The sun, high in the sky, scorched my skin like a blowtorch on paper. I stepped forward, fully clothed, into the fast-flowing column of water gushing between the rocks above. The relief was instant. Icy cold ‘agua’ cascaded over my tired, overheating body. I desperately needed to reduce my core temperature and this mountain stream couldn’t have come a moment too soon.
