Being asked to write this introduction was a really lovely surprise and to me at least, shows very clearly how the NHS is changing its relationships with partners and the voluntary sector, and recognising more and more how we need to work together as a cohesive system if we’re going to fundamentally change the expectations and outcomes for people living with mental health problems. When the NHS was launched mental health care in the UK was in a very different place to where it stands now. The old institutions still ruled and many of the treatments and therapies we routinely rely on today were either in their infancy or yet to be discovered.
