The Day That Death Prevailed
MEMENTO MORI
Chicago death metallers continue to hone their filth-ridden craft
Although they arrived on the scene 10 years too late, and at the worst possible time - the late 90s - it’s hard not to draw parallels between Cardiac Arrest and fellow Chicagoans Cianide. In both cases they’ve stuck to their guns, playing no-frills, blue-collar death metal, where stomping grooves and hooks are the norm. But somehow, along the way, their stubbornness has paid off. While filthier and more underground than Cianide, and somewhat frozen in time, Cardiac Arrest keep getting better. Rarely disfigured by such fripperies as solos or breakdowns, this seventh full-length is arguably their best, especially in its chunkier and slower moments where the oozing layer of filth they’ve smeared themselves with is at its thickest.
