Terra Mortuus Est
UNIQUE LEADER
Moscow death dealers return with a full arsenal
Four years after the exhilarating onslaught of Gravenous Hour, Katalepsy are back and on true cranium-rattling form. A huge statement of intent, Terra Mortuus Est is groovier, more precise and inherently darker than anything they’ve released to date. Opening on the hellacious Closer Than Flesh, this is uncontrollable, grinding filth that’s constantly on the attack, given a demented edge by Igor Filimontsev’s gurgling, unfathomably low vocals, while his bandmates wail and propel their way through Night Of Eden and the title track’s rhythmic combos and divebomb solos. Menacing but with dynamics and depth, this reputation-making opus is a monster.
