Stockholm rockers take another ride on the wild side
With a name like Thundermother you’d expect this band to pack a sucker punch. Heat Wave is stacked with high-voltage rock’n’roll vibes, conjuring up images of freewheeling Thelma & Louise types heading to the sunset via a streak of rampaging divebars and sordid one-night stands. Taking cues from Halestorm, Black Stone Cherry, AC/DC and Southern blues, every song here bristles with anthemic stature, from the retro-worshipping Back In ’76, where Guernica Mancini’s rebel wail exudes fierce attitude, to tales of ‘big tattoos and snakeskin boots’ on Driving In Style and the Joan Jett sleaze of Mexico. One day, when we’re all telling our grandkids about this thing called rock’n’roll, these crazy Swedes will still be living it.
