Free Us From Existence
BLACK VOODOO
New York noisemakers run the extreme metal gamut
Concrete seem intent on stuffing as many extreme metal ideas into this mini-album as possible. The New York quartet are predominantly described as hardcore, but this does them a slight disservice, as Free Us From Existence mixes up elements of black, death and thrash whilst also throwing in the odd nod to grindcore for good measure. What it lacks in sonic dynamics it more than makes up for by chucking almost every facet of extreme metal into just seven songs and a 30-minute runtime. Opener Executing Vengeance fluctuates between groovy sludge and breakneck grindcore with consummate ease, while Starving Serpent manages to evoke the irresistible lead guitar work of Slayer in their prime. Raw, uncompromising and ruthlessly savage, Free Us From Existence is a brutal odyssey of extremity.
