DARK RIDERS
Sheffield’s Black Spiders made two immensely entertaining albums during an initial, near-decadelong run before splitting in 2017. Reactivated during lockdown, the four originals are yet to meet their new drummer, Wyatt Wendels, but have constructed a boisterous, boozy, big-riffing comeback set that picks up right where 2013’s This Savage Land left off. Still rallied by Pete Spiby’s instantly recognisable voice, Down To The River, Fly In The Soup (with echoes of AC/DC) and the lusty Back In The Convent adhere closely to the Spiders’ original blueprint, though where appropriate, as on Wizard Shall Not Kill Wizard, room exists to loosen the reins… just a little. Put simply, if you liked Black Spiders first time around then you won’t be disappointed.
