PALE CHORD
If you find yourself wondering: what would it sound like if you crossed The Amity Affliction and While She Sleeps?, Late Eternity is here to scratch that itch. The album blends melodic metal verses with pounding hardcore breakdowns as synths flutter through, contrasted with pounding drums. Aside from some overeager autotuning, Jay Kucera has a knack for crafting melodies that make you want to headbang and cry at the same time. The first half easily impresses with its extensive range of samples, vocals and mix of genres. But that boiling pot of creativity brewed between No Leader and Setting Stone simmers down with an unfortunate habit of repetitive instrumentals, leaving things on a sour note. Basing itself in themes of isolation and despair, this album is the bittersweet soundtrack to today’s current climate.
