PROSTHETIC
This Californian quartet’s 2018 debut, Loyal To The Soil, was a promising dose of gnarly, blackened hardcore, but Wolf King have upped their game, incorporating more despondent, sludgy influences and foot-on-themonitor metal bravado. It’s an interesting combo, with tracks like the bleak, crawling Wandering Soul contrasting with the more melodic, yearning licks peppering Messenger Of Death. The crushing, pitready bounce of the grindy Triumph Of The Slain reveals their hardcore beginnings, but even then there’s a more sinister atmosphere this time around. It feels like Wolf King are still in the process of finding their sound, but The Path Of Wrath is a big step in the right direction, sounding fresher, more feral and genuinely nastier than some of today’s more hyped blackened hardcore acts.
