A NEW ALBUM
This feels like a given, but we’re making it clear regardless: four years on from Prequelle, it’s surely time for the next era of Ghost to be unveiled. At time of going to press, we hadn’t had official confirmation on any new album title or songtitles, but we know the fifth Ghost record is in the works, and with major tours incoming, surely 2022 is the year we’ll get to hear it.
A BIG CONCEPT
Prequelle managed to be both light and fun and yet densely packed with all manner of conceptual fun and games. Layered with apocalyptic medieval imagery and peddling narratives built around deadly plagues (and how pertinent would that end up being…), it continued Tobias’s knack for matching big, subversive themes with Dune-sized earworms. With the man himself hinting at more conceptual tropes this time around, Ghost look set to pick up that trend. “The album that I have been working on, I came up with that concept years ago,” Tobias told El Paso radio station KLAQ. “I wanted to make a record about the rise and ultimately the unescapable fails and falls of empires.” Sounds fun!
