FORMER SCREAMING TREES singer and solo performer Mark Lanegan passed away on February 22, at his home in Killarney, Ireland. He was 57 years old.
Mark was born in Ellensburg, Washington in 1964, and formed Screaming Trees there with the Conner brothers – guitarist Gary Lee and bassist Van – in 1985. Following their debut LP on local label Velvetone, the band were signed by SST Records, and released 1987’s psychedelic Even If And Especially When. When grunge took off, the band benefited from the increased hype around music from Washington, and their song Nearly Lost You appeared in Cameron Crowe’s era-encapsulating 1992 movie, Singles.
