THROUGH the silvery cobwebs of Frayle’s 2020 debut will have been struck by how fully formed and accomplished it was. The mix of protean, slo-mo metal and wispy, ethereal atmospherics seemed almost alchemically balanced, only hampered by some familiar doom tropes and a theatricality that could be a dab too heavy-handed.
SHAYTAN PRODUCTION The eighth album from sole Saudi Arabian member Mephisto is thin but crisply produced BM blasphemy with Middle Eastern flair.
Skin & Sorrow sees such minor faults sloughed away, with the band emerging fuller, more complete and in charge of a vision that’s wholly their own.
