METALLICA’S MASTER OF Puppets has been inescapable this summer and it’s all thanks to Stranger Things. Featured at the climax of the Netflix show’s fourth season, …Puppets is part of a set piece involving a guitar, beloved new cast member Eddie Munson and a seemingly endless horde of winged monsters. Suffice to say, it was metal AF and has helped the magic of Metallica (and heavy metal as a whole) reach a brand new audience, including getting the 36-year-old song back in the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.
Considering they’d been using clips of the show as part of their live set, it was the least Metallica could do to invite Joseph Quinn – the actor who played Eddie Munson – backstage to hang out when they played Lollapalooza. Sitting with Joseph, James Hetfield shared that he’d been a fan of the show since its first season, before offering the British actor a chance to jam the thrash anthem with the band. As a final touch of class, Metallica even gifted Joseph a guitar that looked like a replica of his Stranger Things model and signed it, to the actor’s visible delight. Talk about dreams coming true!
