US rap-infused rockers run riot with an apocalyptic prequel
With frontman Matt Brandyberry now the sole remaining original member from their 2013 formation, From Ashes To New continue to blend riffs, hip hop and electronic elements. Blackout is intended as a conceptual prequel to the apocalyptic 2016 debut, Day One, understandably picking up the pace in its second half. Heavy on production and passion, Dead To Me is shamelessly hooky with rap woven throughout and a satisfying breakdown in the middle. Other standouts include wellchosen single Armageddon, the equally radio-friendly, euphoric belter Echoes, and Monster In Me, which takes in strong Eminem influences and a repetitive headbanging chorus that the pit will enjoy. ■■■■■■■■■■
