SEASON OF MIST
Hungary’s dark folk magician extends his book of spells
On their latest release, the ambient folk collective – historically the one-man operation of Hungarian multi-instrumentalist Dávid Makó – seek to bridge the band’s past with their future. In this case, that means introducing additional musicians into the mix. Whereas 2020’s The Call Of The Iron Peak featured spectral vignettes consisting of one or two instruments, Vidékek Vannak Idebenn showcases a broader vision bolstered by drums and additional keyboards on some of the tracks. The sorrowful minimalism of songs like Felkelék Én and Clear Like The Wind sits alongside the dense, post-metal power of Flashing Through The Lack Of Light and Új Hajnal Már Nem Jő. It’s an inspired move; the songs retain the coarse emotive urgency of the previous albums, while tapping into elemental forces that raise the cosmic vibrations to mesmerising new heights. ■■■■■■■■■■
