The goblets we use to drink wine are supersized compared with their centuries-old counterparts, and that’s not something to toast




DRINKING WINE TODAY IS A very different experience from how it was some 300 years ago. For one thing, a typical glass of vino filled to the rim in 2017 would be the equivalent of nearly seven glasses in 1700, according to research published in the medical journal The BMJ, which found that the capacity of the average wineglass steadily increased from 2.2 ounces in the 1700s to 15 ounces today.
