A CALL has been made for action to improve broadband connection speeds in the Highlands and Islands.
The area’s Labour MSP, and her party’s rural economy and connectivity spokesperson, Rhoda Grant, has said Audit Scotland’s ‘Superfast broadband for Scotland’ progress update report published last week shows ‘no surprises in the north’.
The report indicates that six council areas in Scotland are still to reach the target of 75 per cent coverage (70 per cent for the Western Isles due to remoteness and terrain). Five of these areas are within the Highlands and Islands, with Highland, Argyll and Bute, Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles all behind on the target.
