SUN-KISSED spectators enjoyed the Glenfinnan Gathering last weekend, marking the 70th anniversary of the games.
More than 1,700 people attended the historic gathering on Saturday. The event is scheduled every year on the closest Saturday to August 19 as it celebrates the gathering of the clans and the raising of the standard which is believed to have happened in the vicinity back in 1745.
Former GP David Sedgewick was the chieftain of this year's gathering. David officially opened the event with a moving speech in which he outlined the history of the Jacobites and the story of Bonnie Prince Charlie. He mentioned the links he personally felt with the games and their setting which, he said, boasts the rugged beauty of the hills a n d the enchantment of the loch.
