MARINE Harvest has launched a major recruitment drive to fill 55 posts at its new fish feed plant on Skye.
The £93 million plant is currently under construction at Altanavaig quarry in Kyleakin. The Highland Council granted permission for the plant earlier this year and it is expected to be completed next autumn.
The plant will produce fish feed to supply Marine Harvest’s salmon farms across the western Highlands and Islands of Scotland, as well as Ireland, Norway and the Faroe Islands. The company plans to appoint 55 people locally across a range of disciplines including production, logistics, maintenance and health and safety. Ewan MacColl, operations director – processing and feed for Marine Harvest, said: ‘This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a thriving industry. It’s an exciting time to join the company, working on a plant which will be one of the most efficient and sustainable feed plants in the world. We are looking for a wide range of skills and will provide comprehensive training. The aquaculture industry is hugely successful and offers great opportunities for career development and we’re particularly keen to recruit local people, whenever possible.’
