Our story about the ambitious plans to build on Oban’s growing credentials as a university town, to be launched early next year, prompted a number of comments.
And then the marketisation of higher education will come to Oban and you will be selling these university places to the sons and daughters of the Chinese elite! Thew first duty of a university is to provide for the education of the local population. I would submit that many institutions in Scotland have lost sight of that. Visit the universities of St Andrews, Edinburgh and Glasgow and think about that.’
Aadm Bbarclay: ‘This is great for Oban. Love how the first comment is negative. Can you guys get him to do public relations? So only people in Oban can go to university in Oban? Or people that live in St Andrews go to St Andrews? I’m not familiar with that rule. It baffes me how negative local people are.’
