ONE of the sure signs that spring is beginning to arrive is when the first frogspawn is recorded.
The date on which the first clumps of sago-like eggs appear varies significantly from year to year, and not only depends on how mild the current winter has been but also weather conditions in the previous winter.
Here in the West Highlands, frogs start spawning rather later than in most parts of the UK, and dates vary from late-February to mid-March.
