Today The Oban Times launches its campaign to make the A85 between Oban and Connel safer.
Since 2000, 11 people have lost their lives and at least 12 people have been seriously injured following accidents. One of the main issues we are told time and time again is people speeding and overtaking on stretches of road where it is unsafe to do so.
However, despite pressure being placed on Transport Scotland, it has refused to do anything about it, saying that the accident statistics do not warrant any action being taken. We disagree. Local drivers disagree and, more importantly, the families and friends whose loved ones have been killed or critically injured on the road disagree.
