Sir,
The letter headlined ‘Hypocrisy over effect of Brexit on tourism’ (The Oban Times, December 1) upbraids me and the SNP for not talking about the effect of the independence referendum on tourism but then expresses concern about possible Brexit effects on the same important local and national industry.
In fact, the independence referendum not only had no adverse effects on tourism but was conducted entirely positively by the Scottish Government and the SNP in terms of relationships with the other parts of these islands and those who live there. For my part, that was doubly so as I was born in Bromley in England. Scotland then and now welcomes visitors from everywhere and especially from close by. So do I.
