A STRUCTURED TRAINING SESSION ALLOWS YOU TO WORK ON PACING AND MONITOR YOUR FITNESS
It’s that time of year when it’s still not warm enough for long distance swims outdoors but, if you have long distance events coming up, you would benefit from increasing the mileage in your training sessions. If you’re anything like me, you’ll have a strong preference for doing your longer swims in open water, but when that’s not possible or convenient, the next best option is the pool. Here, you could just plod up and down for a few hours, and that may be worth doing occasionally to test your mental fortitude, but it’s not something I would wish on anyone. It’s more interesting to follow a structured training session. These also allow you to work on pacing and monitor your fitness, and the occasional short breaks give you mental space so that you can re-focus mentally and ensure you’re maintaining good technique.
