Some pools have the spirit of the community they serve set into every square inch of the place. Greystoke is one such pool. Opened in 1973, as a result of years of tireless community fundraising, it has continued to evolve over the years thanks to the efforts of the volunteers who run it.
2020 marks an exciting new stage in that evolution. When the pool reopens for the 2020 season visitors will be able to enjoy the fruits of the £160,000 investment in upgrading facilities that has seen this long, bleak winter of ours put to good use. The fundraising wizards at Greystoke secured grants from the Cumbrian Fells and Dales Leaders Programme, the Cumbria Waste Management Environment Trust, the Hadfield Trust and the Pride In Penwith Lottery. Those grants have been supplemented with funds raised through numerous, inventive, community-organised events that seem to have firmly put the fun in fundraising.
