Italian swimmers Simone Ruffini and Rachele Bruni have both been crowned series winners of the 2016 FINA/HOSA Marathon Swimming World Cup. The seven stage competition concluded on 15 October in Hong Kong with the final 10km race of the series. In the women’s field, Rachele Bruni defended her 2015 series crown to be awarded overall winner of the 2016 World Cup. The Rio 2016 silver medallist scored 86 points despite missing two races in the series. Brazilian Poliana Okimoto, who took bronze in front of her home crowd at Rio, also missed two races yet still scored 74 points to take second place. Germany’s Angela Maurer, the 41-year-old veteran of the open water swimming circuit, scored 61 points to be awarded third place.
