REMEMBER TO WARM UP BEFORE DOING THESE AND COOL DOWN AFTER
Let’s face it, even for those of us who love swimming, the appeal of doing endless laps of front crawl does sometimes diminish. A good way to keep things fresh is to add different strokes into your training. Personally, I continue pool swimming all year. As the outdoor swimming I do tends to be predominantly long-distance front crawl, doing some training on other strokes in the pool is a pleasant change. There are both speciic swimming beneits and overall strength and itness beneits to practising other strokes.
These mini-sets can be put together to make a longer training session, substituted as the second set in the sessions we published in our April issue or added to the end of the speed sets from our March issue. Remember to warm up before doing these and cool down ater. For a warm-up, swim between 400 and 800m of easy front crawl or backstroke or do one from our previous issues. Cool down with 200 to 400m of easy swimming ater
