TRAINING PLANS
By Fiona Ford
Falling temperatures and shorter days may limit or end your options for swimming training outdoors but going back to the pool provides a valuable opportunity to invest in tuning up your stroke technique. A refresh and reset with the objective to improve efficiency and speed provides motivation for training in the absence of swimming outside in the elements. The end of the racing season is the perfect time to have a video analysis of your stroke. Having video analysis feedback gives you a thorough appraisal of your stroke mechanics. It’s important to see how your technique is performing above and, more importantly, below the water, to link cause and effect. It’s too easy otherwise to try and correct the symptoms rather than the actual issue. From the video analysis process you, or an experienced, professional open water specialist coach can draw out your individual technical areas to work on for improvement.
