In May, Anna Wardley was stung unconscious during her attempt to swim 37km from Menorca to Mallorca as part of her Balearic Swim Challenge. Here is her account of what happened

“I was in pure hell – the epitome of vulnerability in just my swimming costume hitting wall after wall of jellyfish in the dark. I had no way to protect myself from being stung over and over.

“Right from the start eleven hours earlier I’d been navigating my way through them. In the daylight I could avoid the majority, but as night fell and the numbers increased, it became impossible.
