Donate to a food bank
At this time of year, it’s tempting to fill our shopping trollies to the brim with extra treats and lots of food to see us through the festive period. It’s estimated that we spend up to 16% more on food in December than the rest of the year. While you’re stocking up on advent calendars, cheese and wine, remember the people who are struggling to make ends meet, or provide any kind of Christmas celebration for their families.
Most supermarkets have a donation point for food bank items, which will be distributed to the members of the community most in need. For every shop you do throughout December, why not add an item or two to the pile. Pick non-perishable items that won’t spoil, and maybe think about the small luxuries that you enjoy at Christmas that might make someone else feel special.
