This little unnoticed plant was introduced to the UK in the 18th century, and is now classed as a garden escapee and a common wayside plant. Pineapple weed is a surprising plant, as it has an amazing aroma – especially once it’s been crushed. It is a very common weed and is great if you live in an urban area, as it grows in poor, abused soils – so in the cracks of paths or gravelled drives. Keep an eye out when you’re by buildings such as schools and garages, as they often create the perfect unloved, unkempt habitat to grow this fruity weed. If you do manage to spot it, have a nibble on it to try its amazing pineapple flavour for yourself.
