Don’t overwork your dough; incorporate all ingredients until they are uniformly mixed, but no longer. If you overmix, you’ll get a tough scone.
You’ll probably be making these for breakfast, but since you will have some leftovers, it is our duty to tell you that they double as a delicious midnight snack as well. Fresh basil combined with the richness of cheddar cheese makes these scones irresistible. If you have a pizza stone, definitely use it for these scones. It will give them a great crunch on the bottom, while still retaining a fluffy interior.
