As uncertainty grows, retail investors have taken flight from UK equities – but they may be missing out on potential valuation opportunities

With Brexit negotiations hanging over us all, UK investors seem at a loss when it comes to investing in their own market.

Investment Association statistics reveal that while UK All Companies was the best-selling sector in March, in May investors redeemed a massive £532.1m, making it the worst net selling sector for the month.

At the same time, £23m flowed out of UK Equity Income, as investors instead sought solace in the comfort provided by bonds.

This is despite the fact that during the past 12 months to 13 July 2017, the average fund in the IA UK All Companies sector has returned 17.23%, which is ahead of both the FTSE 100, which rose by 15.58%, and the FTSE All- Share, up by 16.45%.
