The first quarter of 2017 saw strong performance from equity markets, with several prominent market indices hitting new highs, buoyed by expectations that the US administration would deliver on Donald Trump’s pre-election promises.

These pledges included nurturing business- friendly conditions with tax cuts, deregulation and the prospect of a ‘tax holiday’ to entice US corporations to repatriate profits held offshore back into the US.
