• UK retail bellwether Next’s 2016 results beat analyst expectations, but doubt remains as to whether its low valuation will recover. Profits sank for the first time in eight years, dropping 3.8% to £790.2m from the year before. Total sales were ‘broadly flat’, at £4.1bn for the year, while earnings per share edged down by 0.3% to 441.3p.
