BIG CHANGES ARE AFOOT at Dundurn, one of Canada’s largest independent presses. Since taking over as president and publisher in February, Scott Fraser has moved quickly to overhaul the company that founder Kirk Howard sold to a group of tech investors at the beginning of 2019. Fraser’s latest hires appear designed to chart a new direction for the company in the months and years ahead: a high-profile trio of acquisitions editors, comprising novelist and journalist Russell Smith, writer Whitney French, and poet Julie Mannell. They join Dundurn’s existing acquisitions editor Rachel Spence in forming a group tasked with setting the editorial agenda for the press.
