Steering Bogies for Locomotives
The steering bogie, a concept that can play a significant role in
reducing rail wear, first evolved in the 1930s, but has only found
widespread acceptance since its adoption by major locomotive builders
Electro-Motive and General Electric in the 1990s. Peter Clark takes a
look at the technology involved, and how it is applied in the various
locomotive types currently in use.

The Butler Rail Extension Opening
Continuing the resurgence of public transport in the Nation’s fourth
most populous city, the extension of Perth’s ‘ Joondalup line’ from
Clarkson to Butler opened for business on a wet Sunday 21 September.
David Whiteford was there, together with Premier Colin Barnett,
Transport Minister Dean Nalder and a host of others, to join in the
celebrations.
